Training Sites Established |
| |
TCF has set up training sites in Muzzafarabad and Mansera. Affectees from various villages are trained in carpentry, masonry, electrician work etc. The Site doesn’t only have a training centre where classroom training on different aspects of seismic construction is taught but also has a block making site and other demonstrative aspects where affectees are given demonstrative training on seismic construction, block making etc. |

Three Model houses have been constructed with the training site for demonstration and practice purposes. TCF master trainers have mobilized and trained affectees in various aspects of construction such as site selection, building the foundation and the plinth, the importance of vertical reinforcement etc. These trainees are then given demonstrative training and hands on practiced by getting them involved in the construction of model houses. |

In terms of rehabilitation in the affected areas. The purpose of this particular project is to raise continuing support for reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the earthquake affected areas. More over the local craftsmen will be train who in turn will be the skilled man power available in the local region for re-construction.
The main benefits of this program are
1. To provide awareness and necessary training to locals to reconstruct the infrastructure, seismic housing etc.
2. To fill the gap of lack of good engineering and architecture in the area and to help in improving construction techniques in the area.
3. The Government of Pakistan estimates that over 788,000 houses have been destroyed or damaged as a result of the earthquake. This program is to also help to the local people so that they can physically construct their homes with the help of the cash given to them
4. This will provide awareness to the local people on environmental hazards, particular to deforestation (for energy & construction) and indoor air pollution. so that they would construct their homes in an environmentally friendly way.

Impact on Affected Communities
| |

- Economic Impact: The economy of the affected areas will benefit with the intervention of TCF relief fund as the project focuses in employing local capacities in terms of professionals, contractors, transporters and material suppliers.
- Employment: The capacity building program would help employment in the area since the people who get trained can then get jobs as masons, carpenters, plumbers etc in the future.
- Gender Impact: Priority was given to women, particularly widows and old for rehabilitation and will be directly involved in the reconstruction process at community level for planning and decision making.
- Awareness: Resulted in awareness to a large population for enabling them to understand the basic safety measures for a future disaster.
- Environmental Impact: These shelters were semi seismically designed keeping in mind the terrain of the region and the lifestyle and the normal economic activities of the community. Special emphasis was placed on the issue of deforestation in the area. It was ensured that all timber used within reconstruction is extricated from the debris and rubble on the ground. There was also a concerted effort to plant trees alongside shelters. Moreover all trainings and re-construction modules included the concept of insulation for reducing the use of fuel wood as energy for heating and cooking.
